[Overview of industrial accident compensation: Must check this if you are injured while working!]
1 . Anyone can be benefited from Industrial Accident Insurance
- It is applied at any workplaces hiring one or more employee(s). Even if your employer does not subscribe to the insurance, you can be compensated as the insurance is compulsively applied if there is an accident.
- Undocumented migrant workers are equally benefited from the industrial accident insurance as native Korean workers.
- (However, the compulsive target of this compensation is not applied to the non-corporate private businesses in the agricultural, forest, fishery, and hunting industries (except for logging industry))
- Applying for the industrial accident compensation doesn’t need a permission from the employer
- If an accident occurs, the suffered worker can submit an application at an office of the Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service (COMWEL) which covers the area of such worksite. Even when your employer opposes or doesn’t make a confirmation seal, there is no barrier to apply for it.
- You can be compensated if your case is like this
- If a worker needs medical care for 4 days or more or dies due to occupational accident, accidents occurred at a routine commute, or occupational illness, such worker can be compensated.
